The steel castings producer has been named as one of Business Review Weekly’s 50 most innovative companies for the third consecutive year.
The recognition comes after Keech, which manufactures castings for use in agriculture, mining and excavation, invested heavily in fully automating its production line in a bid to triple efficiency.
Keech chief executive officer Dr Herbert Hermens said the move would project “Bendigo manufacturing onto the global stage”.
“This state-of-the-art technology is at the forefront of global best practice in foundry operations,” he said.
“By removing some of the manual handling with an automated production line, some of our staff can be deployed into higher skilled areas and really take Keech to the next level of efficiency.”
Dr Hermens’ role in transforming the company has seen him recently named as a finalist in CEO Magazine’s prestigious annual executive of the year awards.
“I’m pleased for myself, of course, but even more pleased for the company to be externally praised for having national quality leadership in the innovation and design space,” he said.
“It says a lot about how much this business has transformed over the past five years and how far-sighted the Keech family has been to allow me to lead that transformation.”
