Scope’s Walk With Me event will be held at Lake Weeroona this Saturday in a first for Bendigo.
Participants can compete in a recreational two- or four-kilometre walk around the lake.
A walk was held in Melbourne last week and another will take place in Geelong on Sunday.
They are part of Scope’s See Me September, a series of events that aims to promote Scope’s slogan to “see the person, not the disability”.
Mr Poingdestre was born with cerebral palsy and has attended Scope ICON’s Lifestyles Options service for the past three years.
The 21-year-old said he was looking forward to the event, and he encouraged members of the community to get involved and walk alongside people with a disability in a non-competitive and fun environment.
“Everyone with or without a disability can walk together,” he said.
“I hope it’s a whole community thing.”
Icon day care co-ordinator Deidre Chapman said 50 ICON service users, staff, family and friends were expected to take part in the walk.
Golden North Scope and other services around the area are also expecting a good turnout.
Ms Chapman said such walks helped to create a society that was inclusive and welcoming for people of all abilities.
Walk With Me starts at 11am, with registration taking place from 9am.
