The CV Blazers started stronger winning three early penalty corners, but they were unable to convert.
Monash Uni made the most of a fast break skirting down the right side of the field before tapping in to take an early lead.
The lead was short lived when the Blazers’ Greg Anderson collected the ball in the midfield and dribbled the ball towards the circle.
As he reached the top of the circle and jinked past a tackler, the loose ball was latched onto by forward Tim Burnham who levelled the scores.
In the closing minute of the first half, provider turned scorer when Anderson gave the CV Blazers a lead by sweeping in a rebound off the Monash goalkeeper, who had saved a penalty corner flick from Mike Jude.
The second half became a heated affair as tensions rose, with Monash Uni picking up three green cards.
With four minutes to go, the Monash Uni sent a long ball to James Morrow, who rounded Blazers goalkeeper Ryan Gill and scored to equalise the game.
With a minute to go tempers again flared. After a scuffle, both team were reduced to 10 players, but there were no more goals and the game was drawn.
In women’s action the CV Blazers took on Melbourne Uni at the State Hockey Centre.
Kate Shallard’s 20th goal for the season, plus another from Maddie White, ensured a 2-1 win to the CV Blazers and solidified their spot in third on the ladder.
The women’s team also picked up three points last Thursday night when they beat LaTrobe Uni 1-0.
Aimee Willmott was the goal scorer for the CV Blazers.
