The Bloods dominated the Roos after half-time at the QEO to canter to a 47-point win and end a seven-game losing streak.
The 12.12 (84) to 5.7 (37) win was the Bloods’ third of the season, surpassing last year’s tally of two.
Having led by 11 points, 5.3 to 3.4, after a low-scoring first half, the Bloods added seven goals to two after the break to run away with victory.
Among the Bloods’ match-winning moves was the decision to play regular key backman Adrian Coad forward.
Coad responded by kicking as many goals as Kangaroo Flat did for the game – five.
“I thought we controlled the vast majority of the game and it was pleasing to stick at it for the four quarters,” Bloods coach Steven Oliver said.
“The boys got back to some of the pressure footy that has eluded us the past month. That pressure forced turnovers and we had a really good target up forward in big Coady.”
As well as Coad, better players for the Bloods also included Niall McDonagh, ruckman Kieran Strachan, skipper Aaron Connaughton and Charles Trotman.
The loss was the Roos’ fifth in a row and keeps them a game outside the top five.
Tim Brooks, Ashley Benbow and Ryley Barrack (three goals) battled hard for the Roos, who haven’t kicked more than seven goals in their past four games.
