Competing in her first event, Harwood, 16, took out the 63kg girls category at the Victorian School Weightlifting Championships held in Hawthorn.
Harwood won her maiden title with a combined total of 116kgs, lifting 50kgs in the snatch and 66kgs in the clean and jerk.
Harwood, who is in Year 10 at Crusoe College, is trained by Troy Hewkins at CrossFit Anarachy gym in Golden Square.
“I love weightlifting because it’s mentally as tough as it is physically,” Harwood said on Friday.
“With weightlifting, you either lift the weight or you don’t and the results really speak for themselves… the harder you work and the more time you put in, the better the results.
“That’s the same with all sports, but it’s particularly evident in weightlifting.”
Harwood said she exceeded her expectations by winning her first competitive event.
“It was obviously fantastic to win and really exciting,” Harwood said.
“The first lift is always the hardest because of the nerves, but my coach told me that I got better and better as each lift went on, so that was pleasing.”
Harwood trains at CrossFit Anarchy three times a week before school, as well as also training one night a week at home.
