The Golden Square-based boxing gym has Jocelyn Amiet and Tully Scanlon on the card for this Sunday’s tournament at the Reggio Calabria Club in Brunswick.
The reigning Victorian champion in the women’s open 54kg class, Amiet has put in plenty of work toward her title defence.
Hit Factory trainer Danniel Burton said Amiet’s state title bout would be this Sunday or on August 30.
“Jocelyn does have a match lined up against an AIS scholarship holder from Canberra on August 9 in Brunswick,” Burton said.
At last year’s state titles, Amiet achieved a technical knockout at the 48-second mark of the first round.
“Jocelyn has trained really well the past few months,” Burton said of the goal to win the Victorian title and qualify for a third national championships campaign.
Two of the Factory’s young stars, Tully Scanlon and Tommy Fitzgerald recently fought in Adelaide.
Their trek west was helped along by ARB Bendigo.
Scanlon won his bout in the under-48kg division on unaminous points decision.
“Tully fought really well,” Burton said of the three-by-two-minute round battle.
Scanlon will be at the Reggio Calabria Club this Sunday to take on Jackson Murphy in a 51kg bout.
A split decision at the end of Fitzgerald’s bout in Adelaide went the way of his opponent.
“Tommy took on a more experienced opponent and it was a top contest,” Burton said of the 60kg contest in the youth division (under-19).
“The biggest challenge for Tommy is being able to gain a match in Victoria.
“He is on the entry list for every tournament and is always keen to compete.
“We will keep looking at another match for Tommy in the near future,” Burton said.
The state titles for the youth division will be contested in November.
“Hopefully, Tommy can gain another bout or two in the lead-up to the state championships.”
One of the newest members to the Hit Factory squad, Joe Maiai is keen to add to his boxing record.
A super heavyweight, Maiai won on his boxing debut.
“Joe’s focus for the next few weeks is on the rugby union finals with the Bendigo Fighting Miners,” Burton said.
“He has already shown a lot of skill as a boxer.”
Preparations for the Bendigo Goldfields Cup to be run on September 20 keep rolling on.
Hit Factory will be well represented at the amateur boxing tournament being run at a venue to be advised.
