Working in partnership with Bendigo Foodshare and TAFE apprentice chefs, Eat Up provides lunch to school students, free of charge.
Mr Galea started the enterprise in his hometown of Shepparton in 2013. He was spurred on to make social change after hearing students were going hungry. With support from food outlets and TAFEs he was soon packing up 100 lunches each week to feed the disadvantaged at schools.
With positive community response, Mr Galea knew he would need to expand to meet the growing demand for social help. He completed the program Social Change Bendigo 101 through the School for Social Entrepreneurs last year. From this, he gained business and networking skills to expand the program to deliver emergency lunches each week to four schools in central Victoria.
“Eat Up operates so that on emergency occasions, no child will have to go without food,” he said.
