Related: Leave a tribute for Georgia
A DONATIONS account has been set up and events at the local football-netball club are being planned to support the family of Heathcote girl Georgia Edsall-French, 15, killed in a car crash in Queensland last week.
Family members joined mother Kym Edsall and father Terry French in Townsville this week as Georgia’s 8-year-old sister continues to recover from surgery to broken legs caused in the crash.
Family member Andrew Conforti said the support from Heathcote and the wider Bendigo community had been a great help to the family.
“It’s more and more positive every day,” he said.
“Plenty of people have been calling all the time to offer their support.”
A five-person working group involving has been established to support the Edsall-French family.
The group will help to co-ordinate the payment for immediate needs for the family and has established a donations account through the Heathcote branch of the Bendigo Bank.
Group member Danny Lumby said they want to help out with short-term needs to get the family back on its feet after the tragedy.
“We have four aims: to help out with immediate needs like bills and other payments, then making sure the family gets home together, respecting the grieving process and helping the community to come together at large,” he said.
“People want to help and give generously. Obviously this has impacted a lot of people in the Heathcote community.
“At the moment it’s all about helping out the Edsall-French family in any way we can.”
Georgia’s school Bendigo South East College, where she was in Year 9, held services earlier this week to remember the popular student.
Students brought flowers and other items to remember their classmate, creating a memorial in the school.
The Heathcote Football Netball Club is planning to hold an in-club fundraiser on August 8 to provide immediate support to the family.
