The Blazers women’s team scored a comprehensive 7-1 victory in their latest away game against Greater Dandenong Warriors.
Greater Dandenong’s defence was under pressure from hit-off.
A superb solo run into the circle by midfielder Aimee Willmott ended in an own goal by the Warriors.
Jade Deppeler doubled the score for the Blazers a few minutes later.
A great display of passing between Deppeler and forward Tracey Johnson resulted in the Blazers third goal as Johnson pushed the ball past the keeper.
Midway through the first half the Central Vic Blazers midfielders linked up well.
After being on the end of a pass, overlapping half-back Rhada Butler fired a cross into the circle to Monica Isip who deflected the ball into the open net.
Isip added to her tally quickly after scoring on the post.
The Blazers led 5-0 at half-time.
After the break, Kate Shallard scored her 19th goal for the season.
Shallard showed why she is leading the league’s goalscoring race as the struck the goal from a penalty corner.
The Warriors goaled, but the Blazers struck back through Karen Mose as she finished off a reverse stick pass by Kylie Henriksen to seal the 7-1 victory.
The women’s schedule for the next few weeks presents a few challenges with games against La Trobe Uni and Monash Uni being rescheduled to midweek night matches in Melbourne to allow CV Blazers coach Randall Butler and several players to represent the Victorian Country team at the Australian Country Championships in Wollongong.
Meanwhile, the Central Vic Blazers men hosted Melbourne High School Old Boys on Saturday afternoon at the Ashley Street complex in Ironbark.
The CV Blazers notched up their seventh win of the season.
Penalty corner goals to midfielders Ben Coe and Mike Jude and another to veteran forward Greg Anderson secured the 3-1 victory.
The Blazers face Monash Uni and then Knox Hockey Club in consecutive weeks as all three teams fight for a spot in the finals.
There are five teams fighting for two spots in the finals and only five points separate them as St Bedes and Werribee join the mix.
Despite being level with MHSOBs at half-time, the CV Blazers reserves men’s team was rolled in the second half as the visitors won 8-1.
The women’s team scored a 4-0 win against the Warriors in their reserves match at Dandenong.
