Police believe the trailer carrying the motorcycles broke down about 10 kilometres outside Maldon as the thieves were heading towards Bendigo in a stolen Nissan Patrol at about 6.45am.
Leading Senior Constable David Rose said one of the trailer’s tyres had gone flat and the thieves had then transferred the motorcycles to other vehicles in the convoy.
“What we’re interested in is if anyone has seen any person acting suspiciously or stopped nearby the trailer at that time in the morning,” he said.
Anyone with information should contact the Maldon Police Station on 5475 2210 or the Macedon Ranges CIU on 5470 4100.
