The Kangaroos have an 8-5 record and need a win to keep the heat on Sandhurst, 46 points, and Gisborne, 34 points.
Mid-court duels will be a key to the hopes of the Kangaroos and the Maroons in their round 14 match at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Both teams scored emphatic victories last round.
Kangaroo Flat leapt to a 23-goal win at home against Eaglehawk, and Sandhurst won by the same margin against Maryborough.
Defences were well on top when the Roos and Maroons met at Bendigo Mazda Oval in Dower Park in the fifth round.
On that occasion it was Sandhurst which fought on for a 35-31 victory.
The ladder-leading Golden Square has a 14th consecutive victory in sight as it takes to Kyneton’s court.
The Lia Marrone-coached Golden Square looks to have too much goalscoring power for Kyneton to hold over four quarters.
Gisborne will start favourite to take the points against South Bendigo at Gardiner Reserve.
One of South Bendigo’s best performances this season was against Gisborne in round five.
The clash on the first weekend in May ended in an eight-goal win for Gisborne against South Bendigo at the QEO.
Another big game in Saturday’s 14th round will be at Eaglehawk’s Canterbury Park where the Borough takes on Castlemaine.
A high workrate, especially when in defensive mode, will be a key to Castlemaine’s hopes of upsetting the Two Blues.
The round will be completed on Sunday at Maryborough’s Princes Park when the Magpies take on Strathfieldsaye.
The match featuring the sixth-placed Maryborough and fifth-placed Strathfieldsaye carries huge significance for both teams.
Victory for Storm would put it three wins clear of Maryborough.
A lot of the Magpies’ best performances have been home.
The Magpies’ record at Princes Park this season is 20-goal win against Castlemaine, lost to Kangaroo Flat by 12, lost to Sandhurst by seven, lost to Golden Square by 13, defeated Eaglehawk by 29, lost to Gisborne by one,
In round five, Strathfieldsaye scored a four-goal win against Maryborough on Storm’s court at Flight Centre Park.
