And paraded it was in a series of events at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds yesterday, including the Women of Wool (WoW) lunch.
A highlight was the launch of designer Jenny Kee’s kaleidoscope of colour called A New Beginning, a collection reflecting her passion and love of flora and fauna.
“Australia’s natural environment gives me inspiration,” Ms Kee said.
Eight models walked through the enthused crowd of leaders of business, fashion followers and groups of friends showing Kee’s return to knitwear. Fine knits in signature colours of red, yellow, green and blue paid homage to her daring 1980s collection that first featured koalas and wattle.
“The industry has changed in the past 40 years,” she said. “Designs are now digitally knitted not hand knitted anymore. This collection is a global meld of exactly who I am. Events such as Women of Wool are important to communities, it is WOW.”
City of Greater Bendigo director Stan Liacos said WoW was economically and socially important for the region. “The calibre of women in this room is incredible. It’s great for us to host such events as visitors can see who we are and what we offer.”
