But they are far from finished with their musical collaborations.
Made up of Maryborough (and now Bendigo) local Nathan Duffin and American Erek Ladd, the pair came together thanks to a dash of luck when Ladd replied to a room for rent advertisement on Bendigo Buy, Swap and Sell.
Ladd will head back to America at the end of July, leaving the duo a challenging task to keep making music together.
A few days after moving in with Duffin and his mate, Ladd heard Duffin’s guitar skills and the pair immediately teamed up.
“I like the idea that we are from opposite sides of the world and come together make music,” Ladd said.
“I’ve been playing last 10 years but never really had chance to flesh out the musicanship I'm capable of.
“With Nathan, it let me thrive as a musician and producer. I can flourish my talents as well as his.”
Nathan has been playing guitar for 10 years after growing up on a dose of the Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20.
“I always played in bands in high school but never took it very seriously,” he said.
“I like to play music can relax to, so have always listened to the easy listening kind of stuff.
“Erek heard me playing one day and said let’s do something with it.
“I wanted to write a song everyone can enjoy but has musicians listening to the little riffs as well.”
After barely six months together, the pair have put out three songs in five months of working together.
“They came together relatively quickly. We spent a Sunday in a studio in Melbourne and took it back and mixed and mastered it,” Ladd said.
“The songs are primarily Nathan's and I put my spin on it.
“Before I leave we are going to get together and write songs. I know with the sound we have there’s enough there to do something better than we have already done.”
Ladd describes the pair’s music as the type of thing you can take home to your mother.
“I truly believe it has more heart and soul than a lot of stuff being played on radio,” he said.
The power modern-day technologies will not only allow the pair to remain in contact but also collaborate on songs and, hopefully, record an album while each is in a different country.
“We have got some plans to carry on, to try and do a record without meeting each other.
“It would be something cool, to make record without playing directly with each other.”
Sadly, the pair won’t get the chance to have their debut gig before Ladd heads back to the US.
“Unfortunaley, it’s probably not going to happen. We haven’t had time to get it together and rehearse as much as we would like,” Duffin said.
“And with just two of us in the band, we can't play the songs like we want. We need a full band.”
Ladd said he would have definitely liked to play a gig.
“We are professional enough to get in the studio and record few songs in a few hours.
“But if we were on an open mic night, it wouldn’t be as good as it could and if it’s not one hundred per cent I don’t want to do it.”
