The account on Chuffed.org went live on July 3, with the aim of raising $30,000 by the end of the month.
Donations had hit $7,277 as of 2.30pm on Wednesday.
Discovery acting manager Kate Barnard said the centre was almost a third of the way towards its goal.
"I am feeling pretty good about it. I think we just need to get the word out there a bit more," she said.
The centre was due to close on July 12 but was granted a stay of execution after funding commitments from several donors.
The $30,000 is being raised in addition to the donations to secure the centre's future over the next 12 months while a sustainable business plan is sought. To donate, visit www.chuffed.org/project/save-discovery
