The Blazers’ men faced bottom-of-the-table Old Melbournians on the road.
The Old Melbournians first raid into the attacking circle resulted in a penalty corner which was converted into a goal in the 15th minute.
Blazers equalised five minutes later when Mike Jude drew two players at the top of the circle and laid the ball off to Tim Burnham whose shot deflected off the prone goalkeeper.
At eight minutes to go before half-time, the CV Blazers took the lead when Joel Comer was on the end of piercing pass by defender Ben Coe and goaled.
Old Melbournians equalised from a second penalty corner in the second half.
The CV Blazers suffered an injury setback in the two-all result as talented midfielder Caillan Welton was hurt in the final minutes.
A wayward clearance from Old Melbournians squashed Welton’s thumb against his stick which resulted in him being taken to the Epworth for surgery.
Welton will be unavailable for several weeks.
The CV Blazers women’s team hosted the Greater Dandenong Warriors on Saturday afternoon at the Garden Gully Reserve in Ironbark.
The visitors took the lead in the first 10 minutes. From that point, the Blazers controlled possession and created many scoring chances.
Australian Country representative Tracey Johnson was on the end of a pass from Maddie White and deflected the ball in at the back post.
It was one-all at half-time.
After the break, the Blazers demonstrated their strength by winning several penalty corners.
Kate Shallard extended her lead in the competition goalscoring tally as three second-half reverse stick shots struck the backboard.
Jade Deppeler was in superb form up front and was awarded with a clear shot on goal after she interceptrf a wayward back pass.
The Warriors goaled against the run of play, but another goal from Deppeler sealed a 6-2 victory.
The Blazers stay in fifth spot, but will be strong favourites to beat Hockey Geelong at home this weekend.
In reserves action the CV Blazers women thumped Greater Dandenong, 9-0.
Sally Anderson achieved a hat-trick as Monica Isip, Tess Martin, Kate Robertson and Leila Padgham were on target.
The men went down to Old Melbournians 3-2.
Stephen Rodger and Adam Gardiner scored goals for the Blazers.
This Saturday all Blazers teams are at home at Garden Gully.
The men face St Bedes at 2pm and the women take on Geelong from 3.30pm.
