Cafes, bakeries and convenience stores have jumped on board the chocolate craze, 12 months after the fad started in Melbourne.
Country Cakes took up the foodie trend about a month ago, ordering its doughnuts fresh from Melbourne.
"It's been a fad in Melbourne for about 12 months to the extent where they are selling ridiculous quantities of them in some places," co-owner Doug Clarkson said.
"It got to the point where we wanted to do something. It was purely an economic decision (to sell them)."
Mr Clarkson said the business sold hundreds of the doughnuts each week but was not sure how long the fad would last.
"You never know with these things. Bendigo is always a long way behind with these things," he said.
Eaglehawk Bake House manager Jude Johns said the bakery sold about five dozen doughnuts each day, all of which were baked on site.
She said she was still trying to work out why they were so popular.
"People like Nutella. I think it's just a craze that started in Melbourne and everyone jumps on the bandwagon," she said.
