The man, in his 40s, appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday after his four-year driving ban came to an end.
He was caught driving with a blood alcohol reading of 0.22 in 2011, having been caught with the identical reading four years earlier – both resulting in a four-year loss of licence.
The man also lost his licence for a year in 2005 for a reading of 0.109.
He told the court he had tried to address his alcohol problem in recent years, cutting down to a maximum of “three stubbies” at home on occasions.
Magistrate Bruce Cottrill said he was not prepared to grant the man a licence without more evidence of his work cutting down his alcohol consumption.
The man’s mother – who he lives with – has been asked to provide evidence to the court at a later date, when his application will be reconsidered.
He will reappear in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on July 28.
