Being based in a regional area meant it was highly likely they would encounter a hazardous chemical spill, captain Tim McNeilly said.
“It is highly likely that a herbicide or insecticide could spill, so we need to ensure our teams know what to expect in terms of gear and to practise containing a hazardous area.”
The session took months to plan and involved 10 crews and 60 firies, he said.
