The eighth-placed Tigers are in a four-way battle with Kangaroo Flat, Castlemaine and Gisborne for fifth spot on the ladder.
“We’re going to play in a few mini-finals between now and the end of the season,’’ Kyneton coach Mark Adamson said.
“We’re being realistic about where we sit. We probably need to win five of our last seven games and have some other results go our way to get fifth spot.
“That makes this week’s game against Gisborne very important for both clubs.”
The Tigers go into Saturday’s clash at the Kyneton Showgrounds on the back of an eight-goal loss to Sandhurst.
“Even though we got rolled last week I thought we played one of our better games for the year,’’ Adamson said.
“Our form line probably doesn’t look good on the back of losses to Eaglehawk and Sandhurst, but I think we’re playing better than it looks.
“We’re not having periods of the game where we are getting absolutely dominated in general play and on the scoreboard.”
Kyneton gave Gisborne a football lesson in round one, but the Bulldogs have turned their season around in recent weeks, recording three-straight wins.
“It hasn’t surprised me at all to see Gisborne recapture its best form,’’ Adamson said.
"They are a proud club and we’re expecting a very tough game on Saturday.”
