Eight wineries will throw open their doors for two days of exclusive barrel tasting sessions.
Bendigo Winegrowers Association president Bill Blamires said the weekend was a chance for wine lovers to taste wine right from the source and enjoy some barrel alchemy.
“Meet the winemakers who’ll be keen to chat about the latest vintage and taste future releases straight from the barrel,” said Mr Blamires, whose family operates the Mount Alexander Winery.
“Harvest is over, grapes have been crushed and fermented.
“But that’s just the beginning of the winemaking process,” said Mr Blamires.
In cellars and barrel halls right now winemakers in the Bendigo region are observing the shared relationship between wine, oak and the atmosphere.
Mr Blamires said each exclusive and intimate barrel tasting session this weekend offered the opportunity to find out what the winemaker looks for as wine matures in oak.
Tasting sessions will be conducted at 11am, 1pm and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday at each winery.
Patrons need to book their barrel tasting session at their starting winery. Wineries will assist with any forward bookings. There is no cost to attend.
Participating wineries are Bullock Creek Vineyard, Balgownie Estate, BlackJack Vineyards, Connor Park Winery, Harcourt Valley Vineyards, Killiecrankie Wines, Mandurang Winery and Water Wheel Vineyards.
