Ms Dawson is one of 12 new appointments to three major public transport organisations, announced yesterday by Transport Minister Jacinta Allan.
She will lead a six-person board, which includes two other regional-based members from Geelong and Ballarat
Ms Dawson - a current director of Sandhurst Trustees - said she was looking forward to the new challenge.
“I'm really pleased to see there is good regional representation on the board,”she said.
“It's a regional service, so it makes good sense.”
The formation of the new board comes less than a month after the government announced the terms of reference for its Regional Network Development Plan.
The plan will provide a long-term strategy for better train and bus services in regional Victoria
Ms Dawson encouraged all public transport users to participate in the consultation process and have their say on future service needs.
The Public Transport Users Association said it was looking forward to working with Ms Dawson, despite being unaware of the new board appointments until contacted by the Bendigo Advertiser yesterday afternoon.
Regional spokesperson Peter Westcott identified problems stemming from the introduction of new Regional Rail Link timetables and improved Shepparton line services as priority areas of concern for central Victorian passengers.
“The opening of the Regional Rail Link has raised some concerns from Geelong people and a huge amount of concern from Ballarat,” Mr Westcott said.
“I’ve heard no complaints from Bendigo people at all.
“But Ballarat seem to have lost some carriages from services and that is causing quite a lot of grief.”
Mr Westcott said the reintroduction of passenger services between Castlemaine and Maryborough, linking to Ballarat, was an ongoing issue for V/Line and the government, but it would require a complete track reconstruction.
