Superoos ready for LVNA grand final

After scraping through last weekend’s preliminary final, Mitiamo coach Jen Morrison is expecting another nail-biting encounter in the Loddon Valley Netball Association’s A-grade grand final.

Mitiamo led for the entire match against Pyramid Hill last Saturday – by seven goals at one stage – before the red, white and blue fought back to trail 36-35 with just seconds to go.

“It came down to the dying seconds of the game,” Morrison said.

“We were one up and the ball was down their end of the court, but the timer went off just in time for us.”

Pyramid Hill went into the match full of confidence after downing the Superoos 53-45 in a qualifying final two weeks earlier, but Mitiamo snuck home.

“We’d worked on a few things and changed a few things from when we played them in that first final and it obviously paid off,” Morrison said.

The Superoos almost didn’t make it to the preliminary final, just squeezing home against Bridgewater 35-34 in the first semi-final.

But the bounce of the ball is going with Mitiamo at the moment and the blue and white will be desperate to exact some revenge on YCW in the grand final at Inglewood on Saturday.

The Eagles have defeated Mitiamo in their past three grand final appearances.

The Superoos haven’t beaten YCW this year, but believe they have the ability to upset the top team this weekend.

“There’s only three goals separating us for the whole year, we had a draw in the first home-and-away game and the second we lost by three,” Morrison said.

“We’re quietly confident they can match it with them.”

The A-grade grand final at Inglewood begins at 3pm on Saturday, following the B-grade grand final between the two clubs.
