The 196cm centre has signed with the Spirit for one season.
Burke spent five seasons with Arizona State University in the US college system and has recently completed a season with the Horsholm 79ers in Denmark.
Spirit general manager Adam Tarr said Burke will be a hit with the fans on and off the court.
"Her imposing size will make her a great asset and a perfect partner to Gabe Richards," Tarr said.
"Her rebounding has made people stand up and take notice wherever she plays. Her wingspan has been compared to that of a Californian condor.
"We have also been impressed with her athleticism and coach Simon Pritchard is very keen to incorporate that into his game plan.
"She is also a fantastic person with great competitive streak and a brilliant perspective. She will fit right in with the girls and the fans will fall in love with her."
Burke’s signing is the first of three recruits the Spirit will announce this off-season.
Burke and the other two recruits will help offset the departures of Kristi Harrower, Sara Blicavs, Maddie Garrick and Tessa Lavey.
