After a poor first half, Bendigo dominated the third quarter on its way to a 32-point victory in Saturday night’s match against Canberra.
Up by just four points at half-time, Bendigo won the third term, 31-9.
Braves’ guard Kelly Wilson racked up 21 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists as Stacia Robertson, 20 points and seven rebounds; and Stephanie Bairstow, 13 points and eight rebounds, also played well.
The Lady Braves took on the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence on Sunday at AIS Training Hall.
At half-time, BA CoE led 49-44.
The home team sunk some three-pointers and long two-point shots in the third quarter.
“Some of the shots they took were extremely difficult to defend,” said Lady Braves’ coach Jonathan Goodman.
By the final buzzer, BA CoE led 88-65.
“The margin was not indicative of the match,” Goodman said.
The BA CoE line-up included Goodman’s wife, Elyse Penaluna, 22 points and seven rebounds.
Bendigo went into the weekend without Tessa Lavey, World University Games commitments; and Kerryn Harrington, elbow injury.
The Lady Braves play at Sandrigham next Saturday night.
