GISBORNE won a hard-fought A-grade netball match at Maryborough in Saturday’s 11th round of the Bendigo Football Netball League season.

Greatest margin at any quarter-time break was three going into the final term on Maryborough’s court at Barkers Trailers Oval in Princes Park.
A superb contest ended in a 41-40 victory for Gisborne.
Victorious coach Simone Trevillian said the result was crucial in terms of holding a top-three position and the all-important double chance at finals time.
“It was a great match,” Trevillian said.
Maryborough’s confidence was up after a great win at Kangaroo Flat the previous round.
The Magpies were also determined to make Laura Hurse’s 250th match a memorable one.
“Playing at Maryborough is always a big challenge,” Trevillian said.
“They play a physical style of netball and their defence was strong.”
The same applied for Gisborne in which Claire Anderson starred at wing defence against Hurse, and goalkeeper Mel Harris intercepted several passes.
Sandhurst surged clear in the second half of its clash with Kyneton at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
The Tigers kept the heat on to be within two goals at half-time against the second-placed maroon and blue.
Sandhurst dominated the third term, 15-9, and went on to achieve a 56-37 victory.
Strathfieldsaye Storm won every quarter on its way to a big win at Eaglehawk’s Peter Krenz Leisure Centre.
The Storm led 18-8 at quarter-time and then 32-17 by the main break.
Strathfieldsaye’s best quarter of the contest was the third as it added 17 goals and kept the Hawks to three.
At the final whistle, Storm led 66-27.
Kangaroo Flat bounced back from a nine-goal defeat at home the previous round to win at Castlemaine by 40 goals.
The Roos defence kept the Magpies to single-figure tallies in quarters one, two and three.
Castlemaine’s best quarter was the last as it added 11 goals.
The Roos’ slick play through mid-court and in attack was a highlight in a 65-25 victory.
Golden Square’s hot run kept rolling.
The unbeaten ladder leader won 77-23 against South Bendigo at MyJet Oval in Wade Street.
