Mr Cameron said he was excited to be a part of the final stages of the hospital’s redevelopment following his involvement in getting the project off the ground as an MP.
“It's great to have been there at the start, and now I'll be there at the finish of the project,” he said.
“Transitioning from an old site to a new site has lots of difficulties, but the aim is to have the least amount of disruptions possible.”
Bendigo Health CEO John Mulder welcomed Mr Cameron’s appointment, citing his excellent credentials as a community member, lawyer and former local MP.
“The board and executive team at Bendigo Health is very much looking forward to working with Mr Cameron, who has always been a strong supporter of his local health service,” he said.
“Mr Cameron joins the board at an exciting time for Bendigo Health with our new hospital nearing completion and many other projects under way.”
Mr Cameron was among eight Victorian health service board chairs appointed by Health Minister Jill Hennessy on Thursday.
“Board chairs provide invaluable direction for health services, ensuring they operate efficiently and effectively, and at the highest standard,” she said.
“It is crucial that health services have strong governance structures in place and I am confident these chairs will provide unique insight into how to improve our hospitals.”
Mr Cameron was the Member for Bendigo West from 1996 to 2010 and also served as Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Corrections.
