The colours were removed from the All Saints Cathedral in Forest Street earlier this month, ahead of the church's deconsecration on July 5.
They were taken to Ballarat, where they will remain until the Chief of Army Lieutenant General Angus Campbell makes a decision about their final resting place.
The Morriseys are among those hoping a decision is made quickly, and that the outcome will see the colours return to Bendigo.
The Bendigo Advertiser joins that chorus, as we believe Bendigo is the rightful owner of this important piece of Australian war history.
Bendigo is considered the 'hometown' of the 38th Battalion – the colours should remain in our city, or be placed among the many other colours at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.
