A true champion who never let success get in the way.
He treated people from all walks of life equally.
He made the time to talk with people, never trying to impress people, he was a very down-to-earth person.
I was fortunate to meet Ron Clarke on a couple of occasions during my time in athletics and he was a very knowledgeable and helpful person to a lot of people throughout his life.
The book he wrote, The Measure of Success, sums up very much what Ron Clarke was.
The sad thing in his life was that he never achieved an Olympic gold medal.
He was a person who deserved to achieve that glory, but because of his honesty, everyone knew what he was doing training-wise.
He never hid anything from anyone.
A true champion at rest.
