By hook or by crook we will stop the boats sounds pretty much as trivial until we see our Prime Minister blindly applying this to opt out of a responsibility to assist addressing the international disaster that is happening on the high seas.
The boats haven't stopped. Some business has gone further north after richer nations reduced their contribution to assessment centres on the Thai border.
Now the PM is not able it seems to deny that Australia is employing people smugglers to clear Australian waters without any guarantee that asylum seekers will be safely landed on a safe shore.
We might be an island continent but we have a interdependent relationship with the nations of the world.
True or not, surely we now have an invitation to people smugglers to pop into Australian waters hoping to win their dues.
What a sad and scared nation we are becoming.
