Inspector Michael Talbot said police would be out in force as part of a statewide operation starting on Friday.
He said with an increased number of vehicles on the road, motorists should be aware road trauma can happen to anyone, anywhere and at anytime.
"Enjoy your holidays but don't be selfish and think about your driving. It can happen to anyone," he said.
Inspector Talbot said the operation would target drink and drug driving, the use of a mobile phone while driving, failure to wear a seat belt, speeding and other distraction offences.
Inspector Talbot said motorists should be wary of wet and slippery roads.
