Chief Crown prosecutor Gavin Silbert, QC, told a Supreme Court jury on Tuesday that Torsten Trabert and John Ryan were so infatuated with Robyn Lindholm that they agreed to carry out a contract killing on Hawthorn gym owner Wayne Amey for her.

Mr Amey's body was found wedged between boulders on Mount Korong, central Victoria, on December 18, 2013. He had suffered four stab wounds to the chest, fractured ribs, multiple lacerations to the head and been choked with a blue rope.

Mr Silbert said Ms Lindholm had an uncanny ability to manipulate men and get them to do what she wanted.

Ms Lindholm had had a tempestuous relationship with Mr Amey and wanted him dead so she could keep their farm at Bittern.

She had been threatening Mr Amey over a period of time and he was in fear of her before his death.

Mr Amey had even called triple-0 on February 25, 2013 - 10 months before he was killed - to claim he was being assaulted by Ms Lindholm at their farm.

Mr Silbert said Ms Lindholm saw herself as a femme fatale who could achieve whatever she wanted through her boyfriends.

The prosecutor said that once her relationship with Mr Amey had irretrievably broken down, Ms Lindholm tried to persuade several of her former boyfriends, from a long list, to kill Mr Amey.

Two former boyfriends had refused to kill Mr Amey before Mr Trabert and Mr Ryan agreed to her plan, Mr Silbert said.

"It was only with the seduction of Trabert, or Toots as she called him, that she achieved her aims," the prosecutor said.

"Mr Trabert was infatuated with her. He'd left his wife and children to move in with her ... and he was involved in an intense sexual relationship with her.

"He couldn't keep his hands off her and the return for her affection was that he kill Wayne Amey."

Mr Trabert and Mr Ryan have pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr Amey, 54, who was attacked in his Hawthorn apartment block's underground car park just after 11.20pm on December 10, 2013, placed in the boot of a car and driven away.

Mr Trabert and Mr Ryan have both accused each other of killing Mr Amey.

In his opening address to the jury, Mr Silbert said Ms Lindholm, Mr Trabert and Mr Ryan had been part of a joint criminal enterprise to murder Mr Amey.

Mr Amey was killed a day before he was due to appear in court over a property dispute with Ms Lindholm involving the Bittern farm

Mr Silbert said Ms Lindholm had given Mr Trabert and Mr Ryan the swipe card needed to access Mr Amey's apartment's underground car park before they went on their "killing mission".

Defence barrister Patrick Tehan, QC, said Mr Trabert denied using a baseball bat to attack Mr Amey or having stabbed him or strangled him or taken an active role in disposing of his body.

Mr Tehan said Mr Trabert admitted going to the underground car park with Mr Ryan but claimed he only punched Mr Amey in the face. Mr Trabert denied confessing to the murder to two prisoners after his arrest.

Defence barrister David Hallowes, for Mr Ryan, said there was no issue that Ms Lindholm hated Mr Amey but it was hotly disputed Mr Ryan entered into any agreement with her to kill Mr Amey.

Mr Hallowes said Mr Ryan admitted going to the underground car park but claimed Mr Trabert was the one who attacked and killed Mr Amey.
