The competition ended on 20 May, and this was the culmination of 10 weeks of pressure filled, real time virtual trading.
Each participant in the game began with a virtual account of $50,000 and was challenged to invest and trade over a 10 week period, in 200 companies listed on the ASX.
The prices students buy and sell at are the same prices as they would get in the live market so this is as close to real life share trading as you can get.
Sam said he was well prepared for the competition from studying economics.
“Before the share market game started I didn’t know much about trading. But my economics teacher taught us a lot and prepared us for the competition. Once I started trading I realized how much I enjoyed it. This experience has inspired me to pursue a career in stock broking and trading," he said.
“You could see the results come in live, and this was another part of the competition that kept me hooked. There is another round of the game later in the year and I can’t wait to compete in that and see if I can do even better."
BSSC Principal Dale Pearce said Sam’s achievement was outstanding.
“Sam has done himself and the college proud. Sam is a great example of BSSC’s commitment to developing students to be independent learners and future leader," he said.
When asked, Sam politely declined to share his trading and investment secrets, although he does seem to have confidence in the market.
“My next goal is to save up some money and invest in shares as soon as I can," he said.
