REPRESENTATIVES from almost a dozen community groups gathered at CVGT Australia's head office in Long Gully on Monday morning to receive a share of $14,000 worth of cash grants.

The employment provider announced grants ranging from $500 to $1500 for 11 much-needed community projects in the Greater Bendigo area.
Among the grant recipients were Neale Street Pre School, Maiden Gully Primary School, Marong Pre School, Hepburn Community Radio, Friends of Melton Botanic Garden, Castlemaine Toy Library, Bendigo Animal and Welfare Services, Echuca Football Netball Club, Eaglehawk Community House, Friends of Bendigo Rail Trail and the Zonta Club of Bendigo.
Chairman of the CVGT Australia board, Rosalie Lake, said the company took great pride in its annual grants program.
"CVGT is at its heart a community enterprise and we understand the value that volunteers and community members play in improving the places in the community where we live and work," she said.
"With this in mind we have set up a community grants program to try to support community groups who are doing great work in our communities - of which you today are representative."
She said CVGT has decided to focus on 11 community groups in order to help them better achieve their goals.
"Last year we gave smaller grants to 31 groups," she said.
"This year we felt smaller grants were not enough."
CVGT chief executive Paul Green spoke about the organisation's "small but really important part of the big mixture of contributing to the wellbeing of communities" before community grants committee member Len Dobbin presented the grants.
