To show that this is not an empty promise and to show their good faith, I suggest that they raise the money now.
Place it an account with the Bendigo Bank. If the 50-metre pool is eventually built, the money would be transferred to the Bendigo council.
If the Taj Mahal pool is not built, the money would be returned to the donors (with some interest added).
However, the $1 million would contribute little to the cost of the pool and/or its ongoing maintenance.
It appears that the KF Enterprise group already has $100,000 at least.
Did the members donate it? No! It was a “gift” from the Bendigo Community Bank because of accounts held by residents of Kangaroo Flat and residents in other parts of Bendigo.
Some of the $30 million would be provided (hopefully) by the Commonwealth and state governments. Who would provide the rest of the money?
The ratepayers of all of Bendigo – not just those in Kangaroo Flat.
The leisure/community centre which is of inestimable value to all residents of Kangaroo Flat (and ratepayers in other parts of Bendigo) would be destroyed.
