IT is interesting to read all the articles about the Ulumbarra Theatre in this paper over the past few weeks with what appear to be serious OH&S breaches and then we see the CEO Craig Niemann come out handballing it all by saying that it is a state government project.

If this is the case then he might be able to explain to every ratepayer why this council is prepared to put up $400,000 of our money to fund the production of Ned, on a gamble that it might take off.
Strangely this deal was not printed in any local press, nor was it reported by our local TV, but was in the Melbourne press.
One would have to question who authorised this funding.
Was it a deed of delegation by the CEO, were all councillors aware of the funding and more importantly why was it done in what seems to be a back-handed way?
I can recall all the uproar when it was suggested that we have an independent review which was going to cost about $250,000 because they could not afford it, yet now it is reaping benefits never before seen.
Yet this was all done out in the open and in full view of the public and now we have this sort of funding to a state government-run venture without the ratepayer being informed.
Maybe it is time this council was looked into for the way it seems to waste our money in secret dealings.
