As council has provided its faith and open wallets in backing this perilous venture.
There is no doubt the musical will put Bendigo on the map and push for our city to reach glorious heights in cultural activity.
As the Director of City Futures of Bendigo City Council claims - “Ned And Ulumbarra are a vital part of the next chapter in the story of Bendigo’s transformation from a sleepy former gold mining town to one of regional Australia’s liveliest cultural hubs.”
If it doesn’t work, that’s okay, we can back it up with other things.
But the signs are positive.
Let’s hope for the actors and the producers and the citizens of Bendigo that it does go well.
But, as a born in Bendigo person, I object to Bendigo being classed as a sleepy hollow all those years we produced great politicians and statesmen in the past, and created great wealth from all that gold produced by honest labour.
