Heathcote Winegrowers’ Association president Phil Meehan said three groups of delegates and a further party of international wine writers would visit the region over three days exploring trade opportunities and experiencing local wines.
“Trade mission delegates will be treated to the excitement of Heathcote’s famed full-bodied shiraz and other red varieties grown in the region with vineyard visits and masterclasses,” Mr Meehan said.
“The mission gives our members an opportunity to further advance the international reputation of the Heathcote region which is currently estimated to have an economic worth of more than $150 million a year.
“Meet the Winemaker will allow key international buyers in important markets to experience first-hand the passion of Heathcote winemakers.”
Mr Meehan said trade delegates would also experience unique regional produce matched with exciting wines during their visits.
“We are promoting both our wines and the region by linking wines and produce with specially prepared luncheon hampers from Food Fossickers,” Mr Meehan said.
“From next week’s visits, we hope new export opportunities will emerge for Heathcote winegrowers.''
Meet the Winemaker is a state government initiative that will see 100 'hand-picked' wine industry professionals from across the word being introduced to Victorian wineries.
Wine regions in Bendigo, Heathcote, Yarra Valley, Rutherglen, Mornington Peninsula and King Valley will be involved in the initiative.
