The 1917 New Zealand Trotting Cup won by Adelaide Direct will be added to the memorabilia collection at Wednesday night’s race meeting.
Adelaide Direct’s victory was the first by an Australian trotter in the New Zealand classic.
Trained in Baringhup, Adelaide Direct’s first start and win was at Marong.
The trotter also won at Charlton ahead of greater riches.
Descendants of Adelaide Direct’s owners were keen for the cup to be on display.
Sue Mayne will present the Cup to the BHRC.
The BHRC’s memorabilia and history sub-committee members Noel Ridge and Norm West are rapt about the latest addition.
“In trotting circles, the New Zealand Trotters Cup is equivalent to the Melbourne Cup in terms of prestige,” Ridge said.
The Adelaide Direct 1917 NZ Cup pace will be run as race six at Wednesday’s meeting at Lord’s.
