The Phantoms, which boast several central Victorian volleyballers, hosted the Southern Cross Cobras at the Bendigo Stadium.
The premier men's team, led by president and player Matt Gordon, lost both of their matches to the Cobras 3-1, 3-0.
"Even though we lost the second game 3-0 it was a much better game from our perspective," Gordon said.
"We just lacked the consistency to close out sets and maintain momentum swings."
The Western Phantoms will now turn its attention to taking on the second-placed Monash University in Melbourne on Saturday.
