Spirit to play China's national development squad

THE Bendigo Bank Spirit will play China’s national development squad in Bendigo later this month.

The teams will clash at Bendigo Stadium on September 17 from 7pm.

Spirit coach Bernie Harrower said the match would be a great opportunity for his side to consolidate its pre-season work.

“WNBL pre-seasons are only run for a few weeks, so to be able to get a game of that quality in Bendigo is a real boost for our preparation,” Harrower said.

“Although the Asian style of basketball is different to the WNBL, it will be a really good challenge for our new group to go through the process of preparing for and playing a match against a quality opposition.

“We’ve got some new players in key positions – like US import Kathleen Scheer and experienced WNBL player Renae Camino – so every opportunity to play competitive matches will help get us in good shape for the start of the season.”

The Spirit also announced yesterday that forward Chelsea Aubry had re-signed with the club.

It will be the Canadian’s fourth season with the Spirit.
