Thompson was co-captain of the national schoolboys 14-years squad that spent three weeks developing their skills in England, Scotland and Wales last month.
They played against futsal club and academy teams, had a soccer clinic at Bolton Wanderers Youth Academy, and attended Championship League and English Premier League games.
The Aussies finished runners-up at a tournament in Leeds, scoring 2-0 and 3-0 victories and a nil-all draw.
But coach Corey Smith rated his side’s performances against strong Scottish club Perth as their best effort.
“This is the first time, I believe, that we have ever won both matches in Perth,” he said.
“The club is a perennial powerhouse of Scottish futsal, with their senior team representing Scotland as their champion in the UEFA Cup over many years.”
Thompson, 14, has been a member of the Vic Country futsal squad and plays regular soccer for Bendigo City FC in the National Premier League.
He believes his skills improved greatly during the trip and said a highlight was scoring against Manchester Futsal Club during his team’s 4-4 draw.
His younger brother Caydn and Bendigo’s Noah Ashby leave next week for Spain to play for Australia’s 13-years boys touring squad.
