Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan has announced the Budget will include $350,000 to build a new signalised crossing across the Midland Highway in Huntly, and $150,000 to start vital planning works to upgrade the notorious Strathfieldsaye Road intersection with Tannery Lane.
VicRoads will work closely with the City of Greater Bendigo in delivering both projects, to integrate the works with broader plans for the growth and development of these booming regions of Bendigo.
Design options for the Strathfieldsaye intersection will be shared with the local community early in 2016.
The installation of the new signalised intersection in Huntly is expected to start at the same time.
“Our population is booming and so is the number of cars on our roads, so it’s critical we make these intersections safer for motorists and the local community,” Ms Allan said.
“Both intersections are close to schools, shops and community facilities and are very busy, particularly at pick up and drop off times.”
“The Andrews Labor Government is investing in better local roads in Bendigo so people can spend less time getting home, and more time with their family and friends.''
