A CFA spokesperson said the fire was brought under control about 4.45pm and about five hectares had been burnt in total.
UPDATE 3.05pm: THERE is a Helitack aircraft en route to the fire, a CFA spokesperson says.
UPDATE 2.50pm: AN advice message has been issued to communities near a slow moving forest fire in the Benlock area.
The CFA issued the advice message about 2.30pm for Benloch, Pastoria East, Pastoria, Nulla Vale, Baynton, Goldie North, Lancefield and Emu Flat.
A CFA spokesperson said the fire was five hectares in size and slow moving but in a heavily forested area on private land off Kitchenhams Road.
"There is one house in the path of the fire but crews are confident they will stop it," the spokeswoman said.
"There is a fair bit of smoke, take care if in nearby areas."
She said 23 resources, a combination of CFA and Department of Environment Water Land and Planning crews, were responding, with 13 there already and 10 on the way.
She said trees were coming down and presenting a hazard for firefighters.
EARLIER: FIREFIGHTERS are working to put out a bushfire threatening a home in Benloch north of Lancefield.
A CFA spokesperson said crews were called out to the fire in bushland about 1.5 kilometres from Frosts Road about 1pm after reports of a lot of smoke in the area.
The spokesperson said crews had since reported a house on a hill in the vicinity was at risk because of the fire.
Four crews are on scene with four more crews on the way, the spokesperson said.
Crews include a field command unit from Kyneton and tankers from Lancefield, Nulla Vale, Kyneton, Romsey and Pastoria.
