The warning comes after a recent cases of flyaway debris on the road, particularly near transfer stations.
Campaspe Environment and Waste spokesperson Ian Maddison said police would conduct extra patrols on roads leading to the transfer stations in coming weeks.
"As well as potentially littering the environment, loose loads can be dangerous, even fatal on the roads - so we are asking residents to be mindful, especially as they cart rubbish, recyclables and other waste to transfer stations in Echuca, Colbinabbin, Gunbower, Kyabram, Lockington, Rushworth, Rochester and Toolleen," Cr Maddison said.
"A badly restrained load can easily fall off a trailer, which creates a hazard for other drivers.
"It's the responsibility of every driver to ensure their load is safe and secure and drivers who fail to secure their load risk a fine.
"It is important for all drivers of trailers to properly check and take responsibility to secure their loads before setting out on their trip."
