During the pre-season it looked like the senior side may be in for a long year after the club had a high turnover of players during the pre-season, but after some fresh faces entered the squad, the senior team is ready to take on Loddon Valley’s top contenders.
After four rounds, the Bulldogs have won two games and lost one.
“We weren't sure what our team was looking like before the season began, but once we started playing with our full side we have been stronger than what we would have thought,” Scott said.
“We have just three players in the team from last season, the rest are all new.
“They are combining well and are continuing to back each other up.”
Scott said their 49-33 win against Mitiamo at the weekend was a step in the right direction.
“We have a lot of respect for Mitiamo, they are a good side, but we were feeling really good,” she said.
“The first half it was very close and going into half-time we were down by a goal, but then we made a few changes which worked in our favour.”
Scott said the goal was to back up their good performance on Saturday when they take on Bridgewater, the team that knocked them out of the 2014 finals.
Bridgewater has also had a solid start to the season, they defeated Newbridge 50-43.
Coach Angela Tremain said the competition has been very even this year.
“It’s been an interesting start to the year, in round one, we had a loss to YCW and then we beat Serpentine, then they went on to defeat YCW,” she said.
“It is a more even competition this year and we are pleased with how it has started.”
Tremain said over the first few rounds the club has rewarded its younger stars with games in senior teams.
She said it was important to repay the faith in the club’s rising stars, who have remained loyal over the years.
“The younger players get a chance in training to work with the senior team,” Tremain said.
“It is important to make sure we continue to develop them throughout the year, because there is a step up in physicality when you play in higher grades and we have to make sure they are ready.”
In other round four results, YCW scored a 38-29 victory against Inglewood and Calivil United, the reigning premiers, defeated Marong 54-20.
