The animator and illustrator, who is fresh from a stint working on an animated adaptation of Andy Griffith's The Day My Bum Went Psycho (now airing on ABC3), does all his work via computer.

Despite the complexities of computer animation Mr Kennett said the workshops were accessible to children of all ages.

"It's not that sort of Pixar level of computer animation, it's still very much in the 2D world so it's still accessible in the sense that we're not dealing with complex rigs or three dimensional characters," he said.

"We talked about developing characters and developing stories based around that character and the individual groups all came up with a different character and we basically turned it over to the kids.

"I asked questions about who that character was and asked is he happy, is he sad, why is he happy or sad and used that as a tool to generate their own stories."

Mr Kennett said there were definitely some budding young artists among the group.

"Generally the ones that had the most questions you could tell it had sparked their imagination," he said.
