After a hat-trick of defeats at Epsom-Huntly, Bendigo City scored a 5-1 away win in the Anzac Day match against Sunshine George Cross.
A hat-trick by Corey Slevin and double by George Slefendorfas capped a superb team performance.
Bendigo City playing coach and key defender Greg Thomas said it was a terrific response after the second-half fadeout in the previous round against Goulburn Valley Suns.
The return of Riley Dillon as central defender was one of several key factors.
"The defence worked really hard to limit the time and space their opponents had," Thomas said.
"Corey Slevin and George Slefendorfas were superb."
Sleven's struck two goals and was on target from the penalty spot.
"George's workrate was inspirational. He is such a strong presence in our forward line and worked hard to win the ball at ground level, in the air or set up chances for others."
Thomas said a big focus leading into the match was on defensive play.
"We worked hard to keep shape at the back, had numbers at the contest or in support, and tightened up when George Cross had the ball."
Bendigo City's under-20 team will be on the rebound from a 3-1 defeat when it faces Richmond.
The under-20s match at Truscott Reserve starts at 1pm and will be followed by the senior game at 3pm.
