After dominating in the opening two rounds of the season, Bendigo was down by 18 points after Nunawading’s second quarter blitz at Bendigo Stadium.
A Nunawading attack led by Rebecca Cole and Kate Oliver was in hot form.
The Spectres led 16-14 at quarter-time.
Halfway through the second term and the visitors held a seven-point buffer as its strong defensive play was rewarded.
The Spectres picked off a couple of passes in Bendigo’s attack.
Nunawading had plenty of players chipping in with points, whereas the only Bendigo players to score in the second quarter were Stacia Robertson 10; Stephanie Bairstow 4; and Andrea Wilson 2.
The play by the Bendigo Lady Braves lifted dramatically in the third quarter.
The Jonathan Goodman-coached Bendigo increased its defensive play and started to find a way through the Spectres’ wall.
Highs for Bendigo included a Kerryn Harrington three-pointer and a three-point play by Jane Chalmers cut the deficit to just seven.
The Lady Braves were within seven halfway through the final term, but Nunawading had the answers in an 83-73 victory.
Robertson hit a game-high 26 points and won eight rebounds for Bendigo.
Bairstow, 14, and Kelly Wilson 13, were next best.
Cole, 23 points, 10 rebounds; Oliver, 21 points were the Spectres stars.
Bendigo is at home next Saturday to play Sandringham.
