Greater Bendigo City Council’s proposed Budget for 2015-2016 provides the answer with a $20 refund on waste charges for each residential garbage bin following the repeal of the carbon tax.
The refund will appear on rate notices to be sent out later this year.
Mr Peters also raised concerns about changes to the way fees are to be charged at the Eaglehawk Landfill with the cost of dumping waste there to be measured per tonne rather than per load.
The measure is designed to help recoup the real cost of dumping waste at the landfill and should also act as an incentive for people to drop off any recyclable items for free at the Eaglehawk Recycle Shop.
I also remind residents that there is ample opportunity for them to have their say on the proposed Budget, which will not be formally adopted by the council until June 24.
