POLICE were led on a high speed chase through the streets of Bendigo yesterday during filming of Channel 7's Highway Patrol.
After a collision at the corner of Short and McKenzie Streets at 3.55pm a small terrier escaped from one of the vehicles involved and police initiated a pursuit, both in vehicles and on foot.
Sergeant Mick McCrann of the Bendigo Highway Patrol said the four legged fugitive took off down High Street following the crash.
"He's jumped out of the broken window and caused traffic chaos between here and Cedar Street in Golden Square," he said.
Sergeant McCrann said the runaway canine was finally apprehended four kilometres away "still going flat out", and returned to its owner.
The driver of the silver Mitsubishi Magna, a Marong woman aged in her 70s, suffered possible chest and back injuries but was reunited with Manny before being transported to Bendigo Health.
Her daughter, Jane Radisich, said she was extremely relieved.
"It's her life, her dog, so she's rapt," she said.
The driver of the other vehicle was issued with an infringement notice.
